Carole Paynter

Carole A. Paynter is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and has served as the pastor of Smithtown United Methodist Church since July 1, 2014. Rev. Paynter is a devoted woman of God whose heartfelt desire is to lead men, women, youth and children to the Lord Jesus Christ, through church worship, Bible study and reflection.  Rev. Paynter has organized and led retreats and training workshops in Christian education, Christian spiritual growth, and issues relating to women. Apart from her pastoral duties at Smithtown UMC, Rev. Paynter sits on the board of directors of Anchor House, a United Methodist operated residential drug treatment program for women and men located in Brooklyn, NY. She also serves as the chair of the Long Island East District Board of Trustees. Rev. Paynter also trained as a clinical pastoral counselor at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, Far Rockaway NY. Her previous appointment was as the pastor of Bethel United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, NY and on the ministerial staff of Salem United Methodist Church, Harlem NY and St. John’s United Methodist Church, Elmont NY.

Rev. Paynter received her Master of Divinity degree (cum laude) from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary. She also holds a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School and has been a practicing attorney for two decades. Rev. Paynter received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Barnard College, Columbia University.

Rev. Paynter is the proud mother of Dominique Constance Imani and in her spare time she enjoys reading, dancing, movie going and nature walks. Rev. Paynter loves the Lord and is thankful for all that God has done in her life. Her personal motto comes from John 4:34 where Jesus says: “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish his work.”

Diana Alvarez

Diana Alvarez has been working at the Smithtown United Methodist Church since November 2016 as Office Administrator. Her formal training is an Associate’s Degree from the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale in Music and Video Business; she also attended the Queensborough Community College and studied Secretarial Science. Received certification from Boces for bookkeeping and Suffolk Community College for basics in Quicken. Attained recognition for her work as a Public Affairs Director at WPOW-FM Radion Station in Miami. Her Office Management experience began with Clear Channel Communications in New York City; where she assisted with running and setting up offices for staff, as well as coordinated the  build out of new location in the Radio City Music Hall building.

Diana Alvarez currently resides in Bay Shore, New York and has been married for 20 years. She has two sons, John Christopher who is a Fuel Tank Technician for all the major airports on the east coast, and Nicolas who is a US Marine Corps Reservist and working on his college degree in Criminal Justice.

In her spare time she enjoys reading, movies, music and her two cats.

She is available to answer any questions or assist you in church matters Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 2pm.


Wesleyan School Director

Pam Tarry

Pam Tarry became the Director of the Wesleyan School in July 2005, but began her association with Wesleyan long before when her own children were students from 1991 to 1995.  Prior to coming to the Wesleyan School, she worked for the Bayport - Blue Point School District for 34 years as a teacher and taught 2nd grade, 1st grade, and Kindergarten.

She loves the Wesleyan School, the staff, and the welcoming families who have all made this a very positive experience for her.  She is dedicated to the the school philosphy of hands on learning.

Her academic background includes a B.A. from Molloy College and a Masters of Education in Reading from the University of Nevada at Reno.  In addition, she has attended numerous conferences, workshops, and post graduate courses in early childhood education.

Mrs. Tarry has been married for 28 years to her husband, Hal.  They have two children:  Matthew, 19, who is an engineering student at the University of New Haven and Juliana, 15, who is a student at Smithtown West.

Her hobbies are cooking, reading, working out, and yoga.  She also enjoys skiing with the entire family, and hopes to get back into long distance bicycling which is how she first met her husband!

 


Parkinson Therapy Center Director

Julie Garofalo, RN

Julie Garofalo  is a Registered Nurse with an extensive training in Parkinson Disease.

Julie has been at the Parkinson Therapy Center for the past 20 years. She is also the Registered Nurse and Coordinator for the American Parkinson Disease Association Information and Referral Center at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center.

Julie's hobbies include bike riding, walking, dancing, going to the beach, traveling and dining out.
