Sunday School

          Sunday School Ministry

“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”  Proverbs 22:6

Children are important in God’s kingdom and are important to our church community!  We do all we can to teach them that God loves them and how to live as a child of God.  Sunday School is our main way to share the Word of God with our young ones, ages 3 years old to high school. Nursery service is available for children younger than 3.  Our Sunday School Superintendent leads a staff of 10 dedicated women and men in this fabulous ministry.  Our teacher-volunteers are trained in the Safe Sanctuary program to protect children and all are have passed voluntary criminal background checks.

Children begin their Sunday mornings in our Worship service for about the first 10 minutes.  These are important moments where the children begin to learn the elements of worship and see themselves as an important part of the church.  After the reading of the first scripture in Service, the children are excused to their classes where they study their bible stories in an in-depth and fun way.  Our children also participate in the life of the church on special occasions, holding an annual Christmas pageant, marching in our annual Palm Sunday parade and leading worship on Youth Sundays about 3 times a year.  The children also have fun at events like a Valentine’s Day movie and baking night, a Halloween parade and luncheon, and Easter Egg hunt. On Children’s Sunday, we recognize and celebrate all of their hard work for the year.  Children can also join our children’s Wesley Sunshine choir that ministers to the church several times in the year.  We also hold a week of Vacation bible school for our Sunday School children and children in the community during the summer.

In the United Methodist Church, Holy Communion is open to all baptized believers and that includes children.  The Methodist church does not hold special classes for “First Communion” preparation; instead, children receive training about this sacrament through their Sunday School class and children’s moment with the Pastor.  Older children (grade 7 and up) can receive additional faith formation by attending Confirmation classes (about 6 months).  At the end of these classes, the students acknowledge their personal faith before the congregation and are received as full members of the church. We believe that confirmation is just a beginning, not an end, to their faith journey.   We hope you’ll join us for Sunday School fun!
